ASPCA Update: Alabama rescue of 300 dogs and cats, and critical aid provided during devastating California wildfires

As a 2015 Business Ambassador, KJB Security Products aids investigations with surveillance device donations.

Earlier this year, we announced our ASPCA partnership to you, our dealers, and shared why their work aligns with our core business value to protect vulnerable populations – those without a voice.

The partnership has been extremely rewarding. The important work the organization and volunteers do across the country to protect animals is awe-inspiring and we are proud to play a small role in aiding their efforts.

To recap, the ASPCA is using several of our surveillance devices to aid their field investigations and response team’s efforts to stop animal abuse and neglect. The field team uses the devices for surveillance purposes and to gather evidence as they work across the country in partnership with emergency responders, humane associations and shelters to rescue animals from life-threatening situations and provide them with the essential care they need.

One such investigation involved the raid at a neglectful shelter in Moulton, Ala. where 300 dogs and cats were rescued. An adoption event to find loving families for the animals was held in July and drew more than 900 people from throughout the southeast. A Weekend of New Beginnings: Alabama Adoption Event Recap shares the story of the new beginnings offered to the animals.
Over 900 people, from NASA engineers to former Marines, came to rescue animals after the ASPCA closed down a dangerous and neglectful shelter.

And while not an investigation, we also wanted to share with you the work they have been doing during the devastating California wildfires. ASPCA teams have been on the ground in Northern California since Sept. 13 providing emergency assistance in the midst of the fires. In addition to conducting home searches and rescues, they have helped treat badly burned animals and provided support to overcrowded shelters. Efforts included the rescue of more than 200 animals and have reunited close to 40 pets with their families after being separated during emergency evacuations. They continue to work to reunite displaced animals in the aftermath of the Lake County fire that burned 67,000 acres, destroying nearly 600 homes and leaving approximately 13,000 peoepl displaced. Our Wi-Fi surveillance fills in the missing piece

The future of DIY surveillance is Wi-Fi enabled covert cameras

Over the past few years, several Wi-Fi enabled overt cameras have entered the market, making DIY home and business surveillance simple and offering greater flexibility over connected homes and businesses without having to enter into long-term contracts and subscription-based services. In fact, we launched our own Wi-Fi home monitoring system in mid-2015.

While these cameras are a cost-effective way to monitor what's happening while you're away – and can serve as a powerful deterrent for anyone thinking about doing harm to people or property – the mere nature of the cameras being unconcealed may not offer you a complete picture of what's going on while you're at work, on vacation, or even while sleeping with night-owl teenagers coming and going.

This is where our exclusive, American designed SleuthGear® brand of surveillance cameras comes in. We admit, it has taken us awhile to make our Zone Shield and Xtreme Life lines Wi-Fi enabled, and for good reason. We've worked hard to find the right technology to offer you the quality you've come to expect of the SleuthGear® brand. We weren't going to settle for substandard technology and inconsistent performance. That's why we are especially excited about these line extensions. Our Wi-Fi hidden cameras offer true live view, require no Ethernet plugs and can perform up to 200 feet line of sight (LOS) from the router.

So, as the surveillance industry as a whole continues its move to Wi-Fi based monitoring, we are proud to tout that we are the first to feature Wi-Fi Direct, which enables up to 16 cameras on different networks and in different locations to easily connect and be managed all from the same application. These capabilities, along with several exclusive SleuthGear camera forms designed to fit busy lifestyles and include household and business accessories and appliances, as well as weather resistant models for outdoor installation, make our surveillance system our highest performing and most versatile for comprehensive family monitoring, and home and business security.

And, setting up SleuthGear Wi-Fi cameras is simple using the "EZ-SEE" app for iOS and Android devices. Once the app is opened, follow the prompts to directly connect your smartphone or tablet to your camera. You are now able to view live streaming video footage from anywhere you have a Wi-Fi connection. The video footage may be stored, shared and accessed securely anytime. Annual storage plans are offered based on seven or 30 days of saved rolling video.

With features including motion alerts, night vision, HD and multi-camera connectivity, you're only a click away from reviewing a snapshot of family life while you're away, being assured your teenager is making safe choices or monitoring contractors or supply chains located around the world.

News Alert: Granny Cams awaiting approval by Illinois Governor

Approved by Illinois' legislators, the Governor will now decide if a measure to allow families to install hidden cameras to monitor their loved ones in nursing homes will be allowed.

Often referred to as "granny cams" – if passed – the cameras would need to be placed in “conspicuously visible” locations and staff and visitors would be notified by posted signs that they are under surveillance. Additionally, installation costs and Internet access fees would have to be covered by families.

The measure also requires the consent of any roommate. In consent is not provided, nursing homes much provide alternative accommodations for the resident wanting to be monitored.

Video footage could be used in court for allegations of abuse. Last year there were more than 100 reported incidents involving neglect, abuse or financial exploitation of seniors in nursing homes.

If enacted, Illinois would join New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Washington in allowing surveillance devices to be installed to help protect patients from elder abuse in nursing homes.

Why partnerships with nonprofits and community groups is smart business

Sure, you're in business to make money. Though what if we told you that you are more likely to be successful if one of your business objectives is to help your community

Incorporating principles of community outreach gets your company off to a great start – and invigorates established companies. Think of it as a marketing strategy, one that sets you apart from your competition and creates a business culture that draws people to your company and creates repeat and loyal customers.

One example is our partnership with the ASPCA. As a 2015 Business Ambassador, we donated surveillance devices to aid their field investigations and response team’s efforts to stop animal abuse and neglect. The field team will use the devices for surveillance purposes and to gather evidence as they work across the country in partnership with emergency responders, humane associations and shelters to rescue animals from life-threatening situations and provide them with the essential care they need.

The ASPCA partnership benefits both them and us. From a product development standpoint, it helps us test the integrity of the devices for this type of purpose and investigation. From a marketing standpoint, it aligns us with a recognizable, credible organization that is doing good works. And most importantly, it has the potential to save the lives of innocent animals – animals without a voice.

Protecting those without a voice is one of KJB's business values. And it can only be fully accomplished when we partner with like-minded organizations.

We hope 2015 is off to a great start for you and we encourage you to identify ways you can partner with organizations in your community this year. Is there a women's shelter or daycare center near you in need of surveillance products? What about the local senior citizens advocacy group that helps family members investigate suspected nursing home neglect and abuse? If your business in online only, there are still many organizations that could sue your support. You might even find that your business ends up being the bigger beneficiary.

Wider, Brighter, Better: Making KJBsecurity.com a Cheerful Corner Store

Who wants to shop in a dark store? This week’s site review is about the “look and feel" of the new updated kjbsecurity.com. No more dark colors and busy backgrounds. Imagine if Pottery Barn redecorated your local 7-11. It'd be a comfortable and cheery place to get everything you need fast. Overall, you’ll find the new site to be brighter and more modern with cool colors and open spaces. Here's a few more updates to help you find the products you need faster than you can fill up a 32 oz Slushy.

Things are bigger in the future:

We learned that our customers are accessing the site on wider screens. So we redesigned kjbsecurity.com to be significantly wider.  More room allows more space for product information as well.

Fast Find:

Look for our bright pink button to indicate a NEW product or yellow for discontinued.

The Features Icons Are Easy to Learn From:

These icons were part of the old site but were smaller and less prominent. Dealer feedback told us these icons were quite helpful - when they could find them - so we made that easier. The icons are located just below the product photos and on the blue pop-up screen in the Zone Shield and Xtreme Life sections. Simply hovering over the icon/symbol will display a short summary of what the icon means. Fine product benefits fast without multiple clicks or additional page visits.

Icons are visible after you click the click the product picture in Zone Shield and Xtreme Life sections

Icons are visible on most products in the Features and Best Uses tab

Next week we'll take a spin through the revamped Dealer Dashboard and Info Hub.

Customer Focus Behind the New kjbsecurity.com

Anyone on our site in the last few weeks has noticed some changes…. quite a few in fact. Creating a new website is based on strategy. That’s why we developed the new KJBsecurity.com with our customers in mind.

Even though the hidden camera and surveillance industry is considered the domain of the digital elite, we envisioned a site that catered to both tech savvy users and tech beginners. It needed to provide users with thorough information, be easy to use, provide quick-buy links and dealer tools. We wanted to create a site as good as our over the phone customer service.

Over the coming weeks we'll tour the site here on the blog. Today lets look at the navigation overhaul:

The Brands Menu:

Each main product category now features a relevant brands menu. Look for our exclusively designed hidden cameras, tracking and personal protection product in this column. This shortens searches by allowing the user to go directly to any brand family of products.

SleuthGear Hidden Camera Central:

Click on Zone Shield or Xtreme Life in the Brands Menu and users now see every Zone Shield and/or Xtreme Life model in one place. We designed this section to reduce the search time by providing a central area of all the relative features, specifications and styles in the two brands. No other category on our site offers this streamline search functionality. The quick links in the blue boxes take the user directly to that corresponding tab on the Zone Shield or Xtreme Life detail page.

The "I Want To" Menu:

Often our customer service would hear "I don't know which product I need but I want it to do ____________" So we grouped products based on what a user intends to do with the product. These new "I Want To" menus are listed under every product category. Dealers can utilize this menu to help a potential customer determine the best product. In fact we encourage dealers to replicate a search function like this on their own sites. It's like having an expert walking you through the best possible uses for hidden camera products.

Buy It Faster with the Add To Cart Button:

Product thumbnails now display Add to Cart button for Dealers who know what they need and aren’t looking to browse the site. Any logged in Dealer can click the Add to Cart button, type in their desired quantity without having to drill down to the detail level of each product.

KJB Security Products Proudly Supports the ASPCA

Devices donated to aid Field Investigations & Response Team

Did you know that the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) is the oldest animal-protection organization in the Western Hemisphere? The not-for profit organization was founded in 1866 by Henry Bergh who held the belief that animals are entitled to kind and respectful treatment at the hands of humans. Today, the organization boasts more than one million supporters across the country and we are thrilled to be one of them.

As a 2015 Business Ambassador, KJB Security Products donated surveillance devices to aid the ASPCA's Field Investigations & Response Team’s efforts to stop animal abuse and neglect. The Field Team will use the devices for surveillance purposes and to gather evidence as they work across the country in partnership with emergency responders, humane associations and shelters to rescue animals from life-threatening situations and provide them with the essential care they need. From puppy mill, dog fighting and cockfighting raids to investigating cases of farm animal cruelty, the Field Team is commonly called upon by state and local organizations to lend expertise during large-scale animal rescue operations as they build a case against abusers.

As KJB continues its strong belief in partnership and work with organizations and individuals that help protect vulnerable populations that don't have a voice, we look forward to the launch of our partnership with the ASPCA. And as the year unfolds, we'll report back to you about how our devices have aided in stopping these unspeakable acts of cruelty against animals.

We encourage you to learn more about their important work. Check out their website at https://www.aspca.org and see the graphic below for a look at their 2014 highlights.

CES 2015 Review

We may not have made Tech Radar’s Most Crazy Awesome and Weird Tech at CES list, but we did display some super cool products, offered fun demonstrations, chatted with clients, met future clients and when not on the show floor, we played a little (okay, a lot). Every year after CES, we review the success of the show, what we learned and what to do better next year. The buzz from the show doesn’t end the day of the wrap up. It continues once we get back to work and inspires us to continually offer the best products and service in our industry.

At CES we did take time to fuel up on local fare with friends.

Chad and Laurel Kozlowski take time to catch up
with friend and dealer Jon Marshal.

Here are some highlights from the show:

A big hit at CES was on display at our booth. LandAirSea promoted its updated Tracking Key. An exciting feature is that it now works with Mac and the maps are powered by Google Maps plus it is now all web based and even has cloud storage.

Showing off the new Tracking Key II

We are excited about this CES find, The Safe to Sleep Baby Mat monitor. We plan to add to the SleuthGear Cloud line in the Spring.

Adding this remote monitored baby sleeping mat to our SleuthGear line
brings a new element of family protection to our products.

We were thrilled to demo the new lines of many Wi-Fi devices and revealed the new SleuthGear Cloud. Attending CES every year gives us a great chance to mingle with our clients and and get feedback. Thanks to our dealers for letting us know that you were happy to hear of KJB becoming NAFTA compliant on the SleuthGear Line.  Visitors to the booth repeatedly asked the same question...where's Brandon? We learned that the creation of our cloud service and working on adding wellness/protection monitoring was greatly appreciated. Thank you! We are excited too

According to our President Jill Johnston," CES 2015 showed us that our industry is changing rapidly as technology changes. We have to work hard to meet the consumers’ needs for hidden cameras and other security solutions, " she said.

CES is always a success when we have friends, employees, and partners helping us.  Huge thanks to David Lim for flying in from Singapore, to our colleagues at LandAirSea for always supporting us, and to Jon Marshall for being a great customer and friend.

Although there is no shortage of excitement at CES, we plan to move from the South Hall to the Sands booth # 70650 in 2016. This hall is where all the buzz is.

See you next year at CES 2016!
